General

Set your time zones, the hours you plan in, how the calendar looks, and defaults for new events.

General

General groups settings under Appearance, Time & region, Calendar defaults, and Event editing. Choose Settings in the nav rail, or press ⌘,, and Settings opens on General.

Tip

Press ⌘K and type a setting's name, such as week numbers, to open Settings at that setting. See Use the command menu.

Theme

Under Appearance, Theme sets how When looks on this device: Dark, Light, or System. System follows your device's appearance and switches when it does, such as at sunset. Dark is the default. Each device keeps its own choice, so your phone can be light while your laptop stays dark.

Time zone

Under Time & region, set Time zone to Auto to follow your device, or choose a fixed time zone. With Auto, the time zone of the device you used last is saved to your account, so reminder emails and connected tools use it too. The grid shows every event in this time zone. Check it first if times look wrong after you travel.

The time zone button in the calendar's top bar changes the same setting. A calendar with its own time zone, such as a Travel calendar, shows that zone there instead, and changing it there affects only how you see that calendar.

Second time zone

Second time zone labels the hours in another zone beside your own in Week view, whenever its clock differs from the zone the grid shows. It is None until you choose a zone. Choose the X beside it to remove it.

The swap button above the time labels trades the two zones. The second zone becomes your Time zone, fixed rather than Auto, and your previous zone becomes the second. A calendar with its own time zone, such as a Travel calendar, has no swap button.

Time format, week start, and currency

Time format shows times as 24-hour, such as 13:00, or 12-hour, such as 1 pm. Week starts on sets the first weekday in Week and Month views and mini calendars: Monday, Sunday, or Saturday.

Currency is the currency new subscriptions start in. It starts as your region's currency, and you can still pick another on each subscription. See Track birthdays, subscriptions, habits, and trips.

Calendar views

Under Calendar defaults:

  • Calendars open in: the view a calendar opens in, Dashboard, Week, Month, or Column, unless the calendar sets its own Opens in. See Open a calendar and choose its views.
  • Week view start: when Week view shows seven days, it starts on your first weekday, the option named after that day, such as Monday. Choose Selected date to start on the date you go to instead, so going to a Wednesday shows Wednesday through Tuesday.
  • Highlight weekends, Week numbers, and Current time indicator turn those marks on the grid on or off. Week numbers shows each week's number in the year, such as W37. Highlight weekends starts on for new accounts.

Your day and other hours

Your day is the range of hours you plan in, from 7 AM to midnight unless you change it. It ends by midnight, so the hours outside it sit at the start or end of the day. When the When agent looks for free time, it suggests times inside your day, and its daily briefing lists free blocks inside it.

Other hours sets how the hours outside your day appear on the grid:

  • Show shows the full day.
  • Collapse replaces them with a bar you click to expand. The events in those hours are listed under the bar, so you can open them or drag them out without expanding.
  • Hide removes them from view.

Events in those hours stay on your calendar. A calendar can set its own Other hours in its editor.

Event editing

Under Event editing:

  • Default duration: the length of an event you create by double-clicking a time slot, or of an all-day event you give a time. Dragging sets the length from the range you drag. An event's type can override it: Hotel and Payment events start as all-day, and Reminder events have no duration.
  • Default calendar: where events you add from the Inbox or the Drafts widget go when you aren't inside a calendar. It starts as Main.
  • Time increments: the steps that dragging and resizing an event snap to, and the spacing of the suggested times in the event editor. Choose 1, 5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes, or 1 hour. New accounts start at 5 minutes.
  • Open event details in: a Floating panel beside the event, or the Sidebar.

Event suggestions is in Settings → AI.
