AI title suggestions
When can suggest a new event's type, a label, and details from its title or from a confirmation you paste into it.
Turn suggestions on
AI title suggestions need a plan that includes AI chat: the Founder Plan or the free trial. They also need AI features on in Settings → AI, which starts on for new accounts. Event suggestions, under Event editing in the same section, is on by default once AI features are enabled. Turn it off to keep AI chat without editor suggestions.
Without them, When still reads days, times, repeats, type words, and Notify instructions in a new event's title, as Create and edit an event describes.
Suggestions appear while you create an event. Saved events, Inbox drafts, imported events, and events you can only view don't get them.
What When sends
After a typing pause, When sends your title or pasted confirmation to Anthropic's Claude, with the names and descriptions of the types and labels the calendar can use. One request reads the type, the label, and the details together; a title whose only extra words are its date and time asks for the type and label alone. To show a suggested location on a map, When looks it up through OpenCage or Photon.
What it suggests
- A type, when the title doesn't already set one.
- One of your existing labels. A suggested label is added to the event's labels and never replaces one.
- A location, and a meeting link from a Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams address. Other web addresses go in Links.
- Flight and hotel details, and a payment amount.
- From a pasted confirmation, a title and a schedule from the dates and times it gives.
- Notify timing that suits the type.
- The duration, location, and Notify settings of a matching past event in the same calendar. Matching happens on your device.
Each suggestion appears in the field it would change. To use one, change it, or keep the field's current value, see Create and edit an event. Click a suggested type or label chip to choose the suggested or current value. Point at a suggested value to highlight the title words it came from. Words for a location or link leave the title when the suggestion applies. Words for a type, label, flight, hotel, or payment stay, but a type tag such as #meeting leaves.
While details load, a small animation plays in the bottom corner of the editor, and the suggestion count shimmers until the rest arrive. With no suggestions, nothing shows. When you type a flight's departure time without an arrival time, its route says the length is assumed.
Paste a confirmation
Paste text that has several lines, or more than 500 characters, into a new event's title, up to 8,000 characters. When inserts the first line where your cursor or selection is, keeps the surrounding text, and reads the whole confirmation for suggestions. Choose the suggestion count at the bottom of the editor to see the full text while you edit, including after you change the title.
The schedule comes from the confirmation's dates and times, unless you have already edited When or the date and time words in the title. Your edited title stays protected from suggestions.
Choosing one suggestion keeps the confirmation. Dismiss, applying everything with ⌥U, adding the event, Save draft, and discarding the event remove it.
Reminders from the title
When suggests Notify timing that suits the event's type. An instruction such as "remind me 30 minutes before" retimes the reminders already in Notify. To add a reminder when Notify has none, name the channel, as in "email me 30 minutes before".
All-day events take only whole-day notice, such as "1 day before". "Remind me tomorrow to call mom" makes an all-day event tomorrow, with the Reminder type on calendars that include it. When can't apply a lead such as "30 minutes before" to it, so those words stay in the title instead of becoming a guessed reminder time.
Dismiss suggestions
Dismiss hides every suggestion for the current title, including when you reopen the draft. Edit the title and suggestions come back, while the words you dismissed stay as text. Keeping a field's current value hides only that suggestion.
