Use the command menu
The command menu searches your calendar, moves to a date you type, adds an event you type, and runs commands, all from the keyboard.
Open the command menu
Press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows), or click the search button in the top bar. Before you type, the menu lists up to three items you opened recently in the current calendar, then its commands. Recent items are kept in this browser only.
Search
Type part of a title. Results appear in groups:
- Events and Time Periods come from the calendars in the current view, on any date.
- All calendars finds events in your other calendars and on dates the calendar has not loaded. Choose one to show its week.
- Calendars lists calendars whose name matches. Choose one to manage it.
- Discover finds public calendars and collections by name or tagline after you type at least two characters. Choose one to preview it.
- Help lists help pages that match.
Every word you type must match. A word can match the title, notes, location, guests, or labels. In All calendars, a word can also match the event's type or a period that contains it. The last word can be the start of a longer word, so stand finds Standup. A number of one to three digits matches only that whole number, even inside a date: 20 finds Gate 20 but not 2026, and 11/20 does not match 11/2026. When your search ends in such a number, an All calendars result shows only if its title has that number.
When an All calendars result matches only through its label, type, or period, the row says which, such as Label Work, Type Meeting, or Period Work trip. These results come after results whose own text matches.
Go to a date
Type a day, such as oct 20, 20 oct, or next friday. Go to Tue, Oct 20 appears under Jump to. Choose it to move the calendar to that day. You stay in the view you are in, as when you click a day in the mini calendar. On a phone, the day is selected in the date strip.
Dates are read the same way as in Quick add, except a date without a year. Go to picks the nearest one: a date up to six months back goes back, and any other date goes ahead. So on October 9, oct 1 goes to October 1 of this year, and mar 1 goes to next March, with the year in the row. Quick add always reads a date without a year as the next one.
Jump to also has Today, Tomorrow, and Next Week. They move the calendar the same way and keep your view.
Add an event
Type an event with a day or time, such as Lunch with Ana friday at 1. Add “Lunch with Ana” appears under Quick Actions with the day and time it will get. Choose it to add the event to the calendar you are viewing, or to your Default calendar from Settings → General when you can't add events there. Undo in the confirmation removes it.
This reads your words the same way as the typing row in the Drafts widget and the Inbox (Quick add). A search result that matches your words stays above Add, so ↵ opens the event you were looking for instead of adding a copy. Text that names only a day goes to that day instead.
Act on an event or period
To act on an event or period without opening it, right-click its result, or highlight it and press ⌘↵ (Ctrl+↵ on Windows). On a phone, touch and hold the result. The menu has the same actions as the item's menu on the calendar, such as Pin, Move to..., and Archive. Press Escape to close the actions and keep searching.
Results under All calendars have no actions menu. Choose one to show it on the calendar, then open it there.
Run a command
Type part of a command's name, such as month, settings, or add event. Commands are grouped under Jump to, Sections, Settings, Help, and Quick Actions. They change the view, open a settings page, or create an event or period. On desktop, a command with a keyboard shortcut shows it on the right.
Find a setting
Type a setting's name or a word for it, such as week numbers, tz, 2fa, or working hours. The setting appears under Settings. Choose it to open Settings at that setting, which is briefly highlighted. trash or deleted finds Archive.
Four switches change right from the menu: Highlight weekends, Week numbers, Current time indicator, and Daily digest. Each command is named for what it does next, such as Show week numbers or Turn off the daily digest.
Use the keyboard
Press ↑ or ↓ to move the highlight, and ↵ to open the highlighted result or run the command. Press Escape to close the menu. Focus stays in the search field, so you can keep typing at any point. Keyboard shortcuts lists every key.
